Printing methods can transform an ordinary tag into a truly effective management tool. In this case, a rental company uses this three-color tag to sort returned equipment. Each piece being returned is tagged and sent to inspection. In this area, the white part of the tag is filled out with information regarding the equipment’s condition. If damage is evident, the red part of the tag is left on and the equipment is sent to maintenance. If the equipment passes, it is sent back to inventory “Ready to Rent.”

Color Coded Tags
To improve the speed and efficiency of the monthly physical inventory, this manufacturer utilized a multi-part carbonless paper tag with a red tag on top and a blue tag on bottom. By using a multi-colored tag, auditors were quickly able to identify which parts had been counted and what remained. This combined with the sequential numbering on the tags helped this manufacturer greatly reduce the time needed to perform the physical inventory while improving its accuracy.
