Hang Tag Materials
Specifying Considerations
At St. Louis Tag, we produce hang tags in a wide variety of materials to accommodate virtually every application, budget and graphical requirement that our clients have. When choosing the ideal material for your hang tag, the application, expected lifespan and location in which your tag will reside will help dictate the material you want to use. Here are a few of the key factors to consider.
Water Resistance
If your tag will be used outdoors in the elements or subject to water or moisture, you should opt for a waterproof vinyl or Tyvek® material for your tag.
Durability
While 13pt. paper tags are the most popular and most cost-effective option, thicker paper stock, vinyl and Tyvek® tags resist damage and last much longer.
Cost & Lead Time
While we can produce hang tags in many different types of materials, 13 pt. paper, vinyl and Tyvek® tags are the industry standards.
Primary Tag Materials
Paper
Due to its affordability and wide range of standard colors, paper is the most common material used to produce hang tags. The industry standard is a 13pt paper cardstock that is a bit thicker than most standard manila folders, but there are a wide variety of papers that can be used.
Vinyl
Vinyl is typically used for hang tags that will be exposed to oils, solvents, chemicals, or other harsh conditions. It is an extremely durable and long-lasting material that withstands extreme weather and has proven to be very durable in all types of demanding commercial and industrial applications.
Tyvek® Tags
Tyvek® tags are ideal for outdoor, industrial or harsh environments...or any applications requiring durability or added resistance to weather or water. This synthetic, waterproof material is tear-resistant and can be printed with special inks that provide some fade-resistance against sunlight.
Specialty Tag Materials
While paper, vinyl and Tyvek® tags are our most popular materials, we can produce hang tags in many other materials including both recycled and carbon/carbonless papers.
Recycled Paper Tags
For those looking for an environmentally solution, we can produce kraft paper tags featuring 100% recycled paper with 30% post-consumer waste, soy based inks and biodegradable strings made from the natural fibers of the jute plant.
Carbon & Carbonless Tags
Carbon paper and carbonless multi-part tags create instant documentation without the mess of traditional carbon paper. Multi-part tags allow you to keep permanent records while providing copies for different departments or processes.
