Blank Hang Tags - DEV
While most of the hang tags we produce here at St. Louis Tag are printed, we still get quite a few requests for blank ones. For the most part, we can customize blank tags in the same manner that we customize printed tags. Just follow this step-by-step process.
Step 1Outline Your Needs
The first step in picking a blank tag is to assemble an inventory of your needs. How many tags do you need? How long does it need to last? What type of marking instruments will you be using to write on the tags? The answers to these questions and more will ensure a smoother design process.

Step 2Choose a Material
For most indoor applications, we suggest using a 13pt. paper stock - as it's the industry standard - but we have plenty of options including recycled, carbon and carbonless papers. For outdoor applications or those requiring extra durability, we recommend vinyl and Tyvek®.

Step 3Choose a Size & Shape
While we can produce blank hang tags in virtually any size or shape, there are 12 standard sizes - all rectangular in shape - that utilize the tag materials in the most cost effective manner. These are listed below, but we also encourage to learn more about our size and shape options, by clicking on the link below.

Step 4Choose a Color
With our extensive digital printing capabilities, we can produce tags in virtually any color…including 4-color process or CYMK. However, many paper tags utilize 1 color printing on one of our 21 standard paper colors.
Depending on the text or artwork you want printed on your tag, our team will be able to help you specify the most cost-effective option.

Step 5Choose a Printing Method
Depending on your needs, our in-house design team can work with you to lay out or typeset your hang tags and then select the ideal printing method. We can even apply sequential numbering, barcodes and QR codes.

Step 6Choose Hanging Features
Blank hang tags in small volumes can be outfitted with standard hole sizes of 3/16" and 3/8" and reinforced with fabric patches, metal eyelets or both. For larger volume requests we can die cut blank hangs with all types of hanging features.

Step 7Choose an Attachment Method
Hang tags are typically sold with a poly/cotton blend string, elastic string or wire in looped or knotted styles, but specialty cottons and natural jute are also available.

Step 8Choose Additional Finishing Options
In addition to custom printing and die-cutting options, we produce many perforated, multi-part, folded and laminated tags. We also have the ability to add adhesive strips or produce environmentally-friendly tags featuring recycled papers and natural jute-like strings.
