Outline Your Needs

The first step in the Hang Tag Design Process is to outline your needs. Form Follows Function ...so the size, material, printing and other elements you choose will significantly influence the design process.

1. How many tags do you need?

Generally speaking, the smaller the volume that you require, the more you may want to stick with more standardized sizes, shapes, materials and other elements.  Also, while our minimum for tags in standard size and materials is only 100 tags, prices drop rather dramatically as volume increases.

2. Where will the tag be used and how long will it need to last?

While this question is primarily related to the material you choose, it can affect decisions related to hole reinforcements, attachments, and more.

3. What do you want printed on the tag?

The amount, font size and placement of the content that you want printed on tag will have a profound effect on the size of the tag you choose.  As such, it is critical to have this information prepared before you being the tag design process.

4. What kind of printing do I want?

For the most part, you need to determine whether you want a basic one or two-color printing or 4-color, process printing.  Knowing this information up front will help influence your choices for materials and colors.

5. Does your tag need anything special?

If your tag is going to require sequential numbers, bar codes, perforations, folding or any other special die cutting or secondary services, it is best to outline these needs up front.
