Outline Your Needs
The first step in the Hang Tag Design Process is to outline your needs. Form Follows Function…so the size, material, printing and other elements you choose will significantly influence the design process. Knowing this information up front will help our tag design specialists provide better guidance on designing your custom hang tag.
1. How many tags do you need?
Generally speaking, the smaller the volume that you require, the more you may want to stick with more standardized sizes, shapes, materials and other elements.
Next, while our minimum for tags in standard sizes and materials is only 100 tags, prices drop rather dramatically as volume increases.
Typical price breaks are quoted at 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000, etc.

2. Where will the tag be used and how long will it need to last?
While this question is primarily related to the material you choose, it can affect decisions related to hole reinforcements, attachments, and more.
- Indoor or outdoor?
- Harsh or pleasant environment?
- Will the tag be handled often or used once?
- What will the tag be attached to?

3. What do you want printed on the tag?
The amount, font size and placement of the content that you want printed on tag will have a profound effect on the size of the tag you choose. As such, it is critical to have this information prepared before you being the tag design process.
- Will the tag be printed on one side or two?
- Do you have a layout of how you want your tag to look?
- Do you have artwork for any logos or drawings you need added?

4. What kind of printing do you want?
For the most part, you need to determine whether you want a basic one or two-color printing or 4-color, process printing. Knowing this information up front will help influence your choices for materials and colors.
- Is the content mainly text, logo and drawings...or does it include an image?
- What colors do you want for the tag and or printing?

5. Does your tag need anything special?
If your tag is going to require anything special, it is best to outline these needs up front. Common examples include:
- Sequential numbers, bar/QR codes, or other variable data
- Perforations or folds
- Special die cut shapes
- Environmentally-friendly paper, inks and strings
