Custom Backflow Inspection TagsEngineered for Durability
Having produced backflow inspection tags for decades, our experienced design team can help specify the best sizes, materials, printing and attaching options for you needs.
Materials
When selecting the ideal material for your backflow preventer tag, it is important to first note whether these tags will be used indoors or out. If they are going to be used outdoors, it is best to specify a waterproof hang tag using a Tyvek or Vinyl material. While paper tags can still be used for indoor applications, the fact that they tear more easily and are not water resistant often makes them risky to use. Keep in mind that if you specify a vinyl or Tyvek material, tell technicians that they will need to use a fine-point Sharpie or ball point pen to fill them out.

Shapes & Sizes
When it comes to determining the best size for your backflow preventer tag, the concept of form following function typically prevails. So, our tag designers often start by asking what you want printed on the tag and then use this input to specify the ideal size and shape. Given the functional nature of these tags, most customers opt for a standard sized rectangular - typically a #6, #7 or #8 - as these sizes offer the best value.
Colors
Functionally, most backflow preventer tags are produced in lighter colors so any handwriting on them is easy to see. Many companies will also choose a standard colored tag that aligns with their brand colors as these are most cost effective.
Printing
St. Louis Tag prints all tags using highly durable inks that resist smudging or fading. Most customers also opt for a 2-sided print so that they have plenty of room for their logo and branding, contact info and any other messaging.
Attachments & Reinforcements
Losing a backflow preventer test tag can create a number of issues related to compliance and verification. The lack of physical proof provided on the tag related to the recent testing can lead to failed property audits, unnecessary re-testing fees, or utility compliance notices. For this reason, most backflow preventer tags are outfitted with wire attachments and reinforced with metal eyelets.

Wire Attachment12" x 26 Gauge Steel
This is the most popular choice for standard, light industrial tags. These wires are very durable, but bend effortlessly and can be cut easily.
Wire Attachment12" x 23 Gauge Steel
Ideal for tags requiring a little extra durability. These wires are about 16 mm thicker than 26-gauge wires so they are more rigid - although still very pliable.
Wire Attachment12" x 21 Gauge Steel
Stiff and strong, 21-gauge wires are 31 mm thicker than 26-gauge wires and are best heavy-duty hang tags exposed to pulling or tugging. May requires pliers to twist.
